Featherweight (1/3/14)

The featherweight division showcased 6 competitors at UFC 168.  The headliner would be a fight between Dustin Poirier and Diego Brandao.  Brandao came into the weigh-ins 8lbs overweight which is completely laughable.  Poirier still took the fight and ultimately came out with the 1st round TKO victory.  Poirier is an absolute stud and I hope he gets the Cub Swanson bout he has been asking for next.  Brandao on the other hand will need a good win in his next bout.  Losing in the 1st round is bad, but when you couple that with missing weight by that much and you’re skating on thin ice.

In another exciting bout, Dennis Siver got the decision win over Manny Gamburyan.  It was a back and forth fight that came down to the 3rd round and Siver did enough to sway the judges in his favor.  Siver vs. the Korean Zombie would be a fun fight or possibly a fight against Frankie Edgar to truly test where he belongs in the featherweight division.  Gamburyan will look to get back on track after this loss in what was a decent performance.  I would like to see a bout against Diego Brandao next.

In the last featherweight bout Robbie Peralta defeated Estevan Payan by 3rd round KO.  It was a fun fight to kick off the night, but both men have some work to do before they make the top 10.
